Personal-use Windows application
A quieter way to keep up with email.
InboxGuardian checks connected inboxes, identifies messages that may need attention, and keeps a local history of its decisions. Optional OpenAI API analysis produces classifications, Chinese summaries, and suggested actions.
An assistant, not an email client
This is a personal-use project, not a hosted mailbox service. It runs on your Windows computer and reads connected inboxes. It does not send, reply to, delete, archive, move, mark as read, or otherwise modify messages or mailbox rules.
Gmail access uses only https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly. Google sign-in takes place in your browser; InboxGuardian does not ask for your Gmail password. Other implemented connectors are Microsoft Graph with delegated read-only mail access, and QQ/126 with read-only IMAP. Provider or organization approval can still be required.
How it works
- You choose and authorize the accounts to connect. The app checks enabled inboxes while it is running, including scheduled and manual checks.
- Message metadata and a cleaned text body are stored locally. A local filter can classify clearly low-value messages without calling AI.
- If you save an OpenAI API key to enable analysis, eligible pending messages may be sent directly from your computer to the OpenAI API for classification, summary, and action or deadline identification.
- Selected messages produce desktop notifications. Recent Activity lets you review local summaries and decisions, including silent results. A displayed notification does not mean you read or handled the message.
Local storage, with an explicit AI boundary
Optional AI is not fully local processing: email bodies and relevant metadata may leave your computer for OpenAI. Attachment contents and mailbox credentials are not included in the analysis payload. Read the privacy policy for the exact data categories, retention, and controls.
Cleaned bodies have a default 30-day local retention window, cleared during app maintenance after they age out. Metadata and analysis results remain available for history and deduplication. Login secrets and API keys entered through the app are protected using Windows Credential Manager; the local email database is not application-encrypted.
The app contains no advertising, analytics telemetry, remote logs, or third-party crash reporting. Removing an account clears its account-associated local records and app-managed account credentials; it does not delete messages at the mail provider.
Important limits
InboxGuardian can miss or misclassify information. It is not a guarantee that every important message, scam, or deadline will be detected. Check your original mailbox before acting on a summary, and do not rely on the app as your only source for urgent matters.
Synchronization depends on your computer being awake, the app running, network access, and valid provider authorization. OpenAI API usage may incur charges on your own API account. Local cost estimates are not the provider's bill.
This site does not offer a download, sign-in form, or support portal. See the terms of use for the current personal-use boundaries.
